Kim with Zacuto tells us all about two new product lines recently released to the world production market,  the Next Generation Recoil Rigs and the Gratical HD Micro OLED Electronic Viewfinder. She also touches on the upcoming Quick Release Hand Grips and “The EYE” high resolution viewfinder.

Next Gerneration Recoil Rigs.

Zacuto has released a full line of  Next Gerneration Recoil Rigs. Brought to us by Zacuto product designers, Steve Weiss and Jens Boghegn. Steve and Jens have succeeded in creating a universal shoulder-mounted rig with the focus on balance. This rig works like a dream for very small camera setups to cameras the size of the Arri Alexa.

The baseplate was inspired by the classic shape ans balance of ENG style cameras and Steve ans Jens came up with a classic VCT style baseplate with a built-in shoulder pad to handle the next generation of camera configurations.

Zacuto’s new product line includes multiple universal accessories like an adjustable Half Cage and versatile Recoil Handle. Zacuto also offers select camera specific options to optimize cameras with unique features—like the Grip Relocator for the Canon C100, 300, 500.

This line includes two rigs universal for all cameras including mirrorless and DSLRs, four for the Canon C100, C300 and C500, one for the Sony F5/F55, and one compatible with RED cameras, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, AJA CION, and ARRI ALEXA.

Zacuto’s Next Generation Recoil Rigs from Zacuto offer never before seen control, stability, and versatility in a compact and comfortable package.

These Next Generation Recoil rigs are designed for optimal balance and comfort when shoulder mounted or on a tripod. With lenses and cameras being similar weights, the balance point is where the lens meets the camera body. In a Recoil rig, the balance point needs to be directly over your shoulder which puts the camera behind you. This requires focus, monitoring and camera controls to be relocated forward, creating a lighter and shorter rig.

VCT Universal – this baseplate has a built-in, curved shoulder pad, a v-wedge tripod connector (with ¼” 20 and ⅜” 16 screw option), removable, extendable 6.5” iris rods and rows of ¼” 20 screw holes along the sides for accessories. The recessed rod mount offers maximum accessory capable space under your camera lens.
Rosette Minimount – Slides on to 15mm lightweight rods at the front of your kit to relocate the FS7 handgrip for use in a Recoil set up.
Axis Mini for Sony FS7 – Attaches to the 15mm rod on the Sony FS7 Top Handle to mount either a rosette mounted EVF like the Gratical HD or the Sony monitor itself. Adjustable positioning for shoulder mounted shooting or tripod shooting.

The Gratical HD Micro OLED Electronic Viewfinder

The Gratical HD Micro OLED electronic viewfinder uses an extremely powerful FPGA dual core processor and the latest Micro-OLED displays to provide a hugely expanded contrast range. Our Micro-OLED display supports high pixel density with unparalleled resolution, true blacks, gamma and contrast range. The Gratical HD has 5.4 million pixels on a 0.61” diagonal screen no bigger than the size of your thumbnail.

The Gratical HD includes two HDMI and two SDI ports with cross conversion from HDMI to SDI. Weather resistant covers prevent moisture or debris from getting in open ports.

You’ll be amazed with how sharp the image is. The internal field of view is just the right size so that the image is large, but not so that your eye has to roam to see the entire image at once. It features a built in -1 to +4 diopter range and Zacuto’s latest anti-fog coating formula. An auto-closing eyecup door prevents sunburn display automatically without any action by the operator.

Mount the Gratical HD to your Next Generation Recoil via the 1/4 20 rosette on the side with an Axis Mini. You can also mount the Gratical HD with the ¼ 20 screw hole in the bottom. Included is the LP-E6 style battery with charger and universal plug adapters.
